Rick East

CFI, CFII, Founder

Rick East is the founder of East Aviation, a lifelong aviation enthusiast, and a Certified Flight Instructor committed to paying forward the opportunities aviation has given him. When Rick first began instructing, his goal was simple: teach a few students and keep his own skills sharp. But as time went on, he recognized a much greater need—partnering with fellow CFIs to strengthen local communities, expand access to aviation, and build a culture centered on stewardship, safety, and growth. Rick holds a Commercial Pilot Certificate ASEL with an Instrument Rating, along with his CFI and CFII. He served on the Northwest Alabama Regional Airport Board for nine years, contributing to long-term planning and regional aviation development. Today, Rick primarily supports East Aviation from behind the scenes, helping instructors operate with excellence while continuing to teach select students—especially those seeking tailwheel endorsements, a discipline he is particularly passionate about. An enthusiastic fan of aerobatic flying, Rick enjoys exploring the edges of aircraft performance whenever he can. He also treasures any opportunity to fly with his son Derrick, who has taken on a leadership role in the business and continues the family’s commitment to aviation and community service. With a focus on mentorship, stewardship, and collaboration, Rick remains dedicated to elevating general aviation and empowering the next generation of pilots.
